Hello Modrobes fans,
I just put in an offer to lease a store on queen st. in toronto so It looks like we will launch in Spring 2010. Of course, Now I have to design some new garments. So I would love to hear what you would like to see from the new eco Modrobes line. I am currently building lightweight sporty jackets and then moving onto pants etc. Some of the fabrics I am looking at using are polar fleece, cotton fleece and a eucalyptus fabric that feels like bamboo (but it is actually eco friendly) for tees, pants and dresses. So anyone who wants to suggest fabrics or hot styles now is the time! Here's how: Simply write your ideas in in this Modrobes group and submit pictures...lots of pics...that you think would really be great first styles for Modrobes. If I use your ideas you will get a special surprise when we open...and there a lots of special surprises for everyone who submits a great idea. Thanks in advance..and tell all your friends. See you in the Spring!
I was sitting down reading the Saturday paper this morning when I realized something quite significant. As I was reading through articles detailing why Canada's Tar Sands were a global nightmare of pollution I realized that it wasn't the fault of Canadians. In fact, private companies who have exploited the Tar Sands for profit are the ones to blame. I also realized that as we, real people become more educated about the environmental, and the human, damage that the Tar Sands cause, the more we are going to force private companies to shut it down.
That's it I thought.
Knowledge and education are key elements of understanding but marketing is also ridiculously important too!
For example, Copenhagen is a marketing vehicle for saving humans from the destruction of our world by private companies with short term interests.
Now you are probably wondering what this has to do with Modrobes clothing?
Well, there are fabrics out there that do a better job of protecting and outfitting humans than the sort of toxic(how they are made) fabrics that are out there now. But people are not aware of these fabrics and no one has marketed them in the past.
Why? Mainly because these fabrics are new and slightly more expensive because they don't cheat the environment in the process of making them. However, what they do is feel good, look good, perform like your own skin and biodegrade afterward into harmless obscurity! Sweet, I know. I'm excited.
However, with more knowledge and then marketing, these fabrics will become the fabrics of choice once we become more evolved as a holistic economy. After all the earth is a limited resource.
So what does this mean now? It means that in Spring 2010 Modrobes will be introducing some of the most innovative fabrics in the world and we're going to need to be doing some serious marketing in order to get people to understand why these fabric are simply incredible!
Now what does this have to do with you? Well, nothing really. I just wanted you to know because I'm betting my entire business on the fact that people will love these fabrics and that the real challenge for Modrobes is making things smarter, better and cleaner!
This is Chad. He's a fireman. He lives on a boat in Toronto. He is wearing the Modrobes Mens Recycled Fleece Mock Neck Jacket. We are sold out of almost all of them except for a few mediums. I am currently working on a special Christmas limited offering of black polar fleece widelegs(the polar fleece is 30% recycled) Stay tuned to see them in the store in the next few days.
The Financial Post featured an article about the Dragon's Den Show and the Modrobes deal. It is always interesting to hear what "experts" think about an industry that they know nothing about. Catch a little cynicism there? Maybe it was the title of the story that got my back up. Regardless, it shows that Brett Wilson knows an entrepreneur even when he doesn't know a brand. Again, they seem to have missed the fact that the company was under bankruptcy protection and not bankrupt but who can say no to big media words like "bankrupt"!
Otherwise, we are in sample mode here at Modrobes...building the green, eco friendly clothing line that I spoke about on the show. We may have some new product for Christmas but the big launch will be Spring 2010.
And we will have a behind the scenes video coming out in a few days...so stay tuned. Again, thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support!
